Taking care of yourself….

I can’t believe its 5 months since my last blog update, its been a very busy few months with work but also some very tricky times as our son became unwell and we were in hospital for most of May and away from work for some of June while we cared for him.

Thankfully he is now back to his usual self, running around, playing football and getting up to mischief ☺.

Over this time, it was hard to prioritise self care… that routine of getting to the gym or going for a walk became a distant memory

I wanted to reach out to think together about some ways we can get some of this self care back… it doesn’t need to be an hour in the gym, sometimes just a few minutes of deep breathing or connecting with someone can really help. Here are a few suggestions that helped me at that tricky time. I hope you find them useful:

Take a Short Walk: Spend 10-15 minutes ‘mindfully’ walking outside, noticing your five senses, what you can see, hear, smell, taste and touch.

Practice Deep Breathing: Take a few minutes to do deep breathing exercises to help calm your mind and reduce stress.

Drink Water: Ensure you're staying hydrated by drinking a glass of water.

Read or listen to an audio book: Spend some time reading something you enjoy, whether it's a book, article, or blog.

Listen to Music: Play your favorite songs or calming music to relax.

Stretch: Do some simple stretches to relieve tension in your muscles.

Meditate: Spend a few minutes meditating to clear your mind and center yourself.

Journal: Write down your thoughts, feelings, or things you're grateful for.

Take a Bath: Relax in a warm bath with some soothing bath salts or essential oils.

Practice Gratitude: Reflect on a few things you're thankful for to shift your mindset to a positive one.

Unplug: Take a break from screens and social media for a little while.

Garden: Spend some time tending to your plants or garden.

Pamper Yourself: Do something nice for your body, like a face mask or a foot soak.

Call a Friend: Have a chat with a friend or family member to connect and share.

Light a Candle: Light a scented candle and take a moment to enjoy the aroma and the calming ambiance.

Watch a Movie or Show: Take time to watch something you enjoy.

Practice Affirmations: Say positive affirmations to yourself to boost your mood and confidence.

Choose activities that resonate with you and fit into your daily schedule. Regularly engaging in self-care can have a significant positive impact on your mental and physical health.

I hope you found this helpful x
